마 5:7

(마 5:7)
긍휼히 여기는 자는 복이 있나니
저희가 긍휼히 여김을 받을 것임이요
(Matthew 5:7)
Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

긍휼은
사람이 애써 만들어 내는 성품이 아닙니다.
Mercy is not a character trait
that people manufacture by effort.

의지를 다잡아 겨우 실천하는 친절도 아닙니다.
It is not a kindness practiced by sheer willpower.

심령이 가난해지고,
죄 앞에서 애통해 보았고,
It is born in those
who have become poor in spirit,
who have mourned before their sin,

자기 힘을 내려놓고 하나님의 주권 앞에 잠잠해졌으며,
who have laid down their own strength
and grown silent before the sovereignty of God,

마침내 하나님의 의를 향해 배고파해 본 사람에게서—
and who have finally hungered and thirsted
for the righteousness of God—

그다음으로 나타나는 열매가 바로 긍휼입니다.
the next fruit that appears
is mercy.

그래서 긍휼은
훈련의 결과라기보다
은혜가 남긴 자국에 가깝습니다.
Therefore, mercy is less the result of training
and more the mark
that grace leaves behind.

사람은
본능적으로 묻습니다.
Human beings instinctively ask:

“받을 자격이 있는가?”
“Does this person deserve it?”

“저 사람은 그럴 만한가?”
“Is that person worthy?”

그러나 긍휼은
전혀 다른 질문을 합니다.
But mercy asks a completely different question.

“하나님은 나를 어떻게 대하셨는가?”
“How did God treat me?”

그 질문 앞에 서면
정죄의 언어는 힘을 잃고,
Standing before that question,
the language of condemnation loses its power,

판단은 멈추며,
judgment comes to a halt,

기억 속에 하나님의 태도가 떠오릅니다.
and God’s posture toward us rises in our memory.

설명할 수 없는 인내-
Unexplainable patience—

이해할 수 없는 기다림-
incomprehensible waiting—

끊임없이 다시 기회를 주셨던 손길—
hands that kept giving chances again and again—

그 긍휼을 기억하는 사람은
다른 사람을 쉽게 판단하고
정죄하지 못합니다.
A person who remembers that mercy
cannot easily judge or condemn others.

틀린 것을 틀렸다고 말하지 못해서가 아니라,
Not because they cannot call wrong “wrong,”

사람을 포기할 수 없기 때문입니다.
but because they cannot give up on people.

긍휼은
진리를 낮추지 않으면서도
사람을 살리는 태도입니다.
Mercy is an attitude
that does not lower the truth,
yet still gives life to people.

그래서 예수님은
“긍휼히 여기면 복을 받는다”고 말씀하지 않으십니다.
That is why Jesus does not say,
“You will be blessed if you show mercy.”

대신,
“긍휼히 여길 수 있는 자가 복이 있다”고 선언하십니다.
Instead, He declares,
“Blessed is the one who is able to show mercy.”

그 말은 곧,
그 사람 안에 이미
왕국의 생명이 살아 움직이고 있다는 뜻이기 때문입니다.
That means that within such a person,
the life of the Kingdom
is already alive and at work.

“저희가 긍휼히 여김을 받을 것임이요.”
“For they shall obtain mercy.”

이 말씀은
거래의 약속이 아닙니다.
This is not a transactional promise.

긍휼을 베풀어야만 다시 긍휼을 받는다는 조건도 아닙니다.
It is not a condition that says,
“Only if you give mercy will you receive it.”

이것은
이미 긍휼 안에 거하고 있는 사람이
Rather, it is a confirmation
that the one who already dwells in mercy

장차도 동일한 하나님의 다스림 아래 있음을 알리는
확증의 말씀입니다.
will continue to live
under the same rule of God in the days to come.

오늘,
누군가를 판단하기 전에
잠시 멈추어 봅니다.
Today, before judging someone,
we pause for a moment.

그 사람의 자격을 묻기 전에-
Before asking about their worthiness—

하나님이 나를 어떻게 품으셨는지를 떠올려 봅니다.
we recall how God embraced us.

그 기억이 살아 있는 한,
긍휼은
억지로 짜내지 않아도
자연스럽게 흘러나올 것입니다.
As long as that memory is alive,
mercy will flow naturally,
without being forced.

그리고 그 흐름 위에,
하나님의 왕국은
이미 조용히, 그러나 분명하게
우리 가운데 드러나고 있습니다.
And upon that flow,
the Kingdom of God
is already being revealed among us—
quietly, yet unmistakably.

주의 이름으로
축복하고 축복하며 축복합니다!
