오늘은 올 한 해의 마지막 날입니다.
Today is the last day of this year.

달력의 끝, 숫자의 끝, 한 해의 마지막 밤.
The end of the calendar, the end of the numbers, the final night of the year.

사람들은 이 날에 무엇을 남겼는지 계산하고, 무엇을 이루었는지 돌아보며, 무엇을 실패했는지 떠올립니다.
On this day, people calculate what they have left behind, look back on what they have achieved, and recall what they have failed to do.

그러나 예수님은 이 질문을 먼저 던지십니다. “너는 참으로 자유했는가?”
But Jesus asks this question first. “Were you truly free?”

우리는 많은 일을 했습니다. 바쁘게 살았고, 애썼고, 견뎌 냈습니다.
We have done many things. We lived busy lives, we struggled, and we endured.

 

그러나 돌아보면 여전히 우리를 묶고 있던 것들이 있습니다.
But when we look back, there are still things that bound us.

반복되던 죄, 끊지 못한 습관, 마음속에 남아 있던 정죄, 놓아버리지 못한 상처와 두려움.
Repeated sins, habits we could not break, condemnation lingering in our hearts, wounds and fears we could not let go of.

겉으로는 한 해를 지나왔지만, 속사람은 여전히 어제의 자리에 머물러 있었을지도 모릅니다.
Outwardly, we passed through another year, but inwardly, we may still have been standing in yesterday’s place.

그래서 한 해의 끝에서 우리는 다시 이 말씀 앞에 섭니다. “그러므로 아들이 너희를 자유케 하면 너희가 참으로 자유하리라.”
So, at the end of the year, we stand once again before this word. “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

이 말씀은 새해의 목표가 아니라, 새해로 들어가기 전의 점검입니다.
This word is not a goal for the new year, but an examination before entering it.

 

예수님이 말씀하시는 자유는 아무 책임도 없는 삶이 아닙니다. 마음대로 살아도 된다는 선언도 아닙니다.
The freedom Jesus speaks of is not a life without responsibility. It is not a declaration that we may live however we please.

이 자유는 죄에서 떠날 수 있는 힘입니다.
This freedom is the power to depart from sin.

 

예수님의 은혜는 죄의 반복을 허락하는 은혜가 아니라 죄에서 떠날 힘을 주는 은혜입니다.
The grace of Jesus is not grace that permits the repetition of sin, but grace that gives us strength to leave sin behind.

한 해 동안 우리는 은혜를 말했지만, 정말 죄에서 떠나고 있었는지 이 밤에 정직하게 물어야 합니다.
Throughout the year, we spoke of grace, but tonight we must honestly ask whether we were truly departing from sin.

12월 31일은 무엇을 더 붙잡는 날이 아니라, 무엇을 내려놓을지 결정하는 날입니다.
December 31 is not a day to hold on to more things, but a day to decide what to lay down.

• 정죄를 내려놓고 • 죄의 습관을 내려놓고 • “나는 원래 이런 사람”이라는 체념을 내려놓고
• Laying down condemnation, • laying down sinful habits, • laying down the resignation that says, “This is just who I am,”

 

그리고 대신 아들이 주시는 자유를 붙드는 날입니다.
And instead, it is the day we hold fast to the freedom the Son gives.

아들이 주시는 자유는 빼앗기지 않습니다.
The freedom given by the Son cannot be taken away.

상황이 흔들어도 취소되지 않습니다. 실패가 있어도 무효가 되지 않습니다.
It is not canceled when circumstances shake. It is not nullified even when there is failure.

왜냐하면 이 자유는 내 결심에서 온 것이 아니라, 아들의 사역에서 온 것이기 때문입니다.
Because this freedom does not come from my resolve, but from the work of the Son.

이제 한 해가 저물어 갑니다. 오늘 우리는 단지 시간을 넘기는 것이 아니라 자리를 옮깁니다.
Now the year is drawing to a close. Today, we are not merely passing time, we are changing our position.

죄의 자리에 머무는 삶에서 자유 안으로, 정죄에 묶인 삶에서 은혜 안으로, 어제의 반복에서 새 순종의 길로 옮기는 것입니다.
From a life remaining in sin into freedom, from a life bound by condemnation into grace, from the repetition of yesterday into a new path of obedience.

한 해를 잘 마무리하는 길은 더 잘 살겠다고 다짐하는 것이 아니라, 아들이 주시는 자유를 다시 붙드는 것입니다.
The way to finish the year well is not by resolving to live better, but by holding again to the freedom the Son gives.

하나님 이 시간 기도합니다. 아들의 핏 값으로 사신 바 된 친 백성들, 아들이 주신 하늘의 자유로 새로운 한 해를 시작하게 하소서.
God, at this time we pray. Your beloved people, purchased by the price of the Son’s blood, let us begin a new year with the heavenly freedom given by the Son.

주 예수 그리스도 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
