All the furnishings of the Tabernacle symbolize the faith life of God’s redeemed children us, Christians, who are a royal priesthood.
The items in the Holy Place the golden lampstand, the table of showbread, and the altar of incense—represent our inner spiritual life, especially the believer's practice of meditating on the Word and prayer.
Before approaching the altar of incense at the throne of grace, the Bible teaches that we must first come before the golden lampstand and the table of showbread.
Take time to read and meditate on the following verse:
Exodus 30:7
"Aaron shall burn fragrant incense on it every morning when he tends the lamps."
Through this verse, we learn what the high priest Aaron needed to do every morning before burning incense on the altar of incense: he had to tend the lamps of the golden lampstand.
The lamps of the golden lampstand symbolize the light of the Word.
When we come before the golden lampstand to read, hear, and study the Word, and then partake of the Word at the table of showbread by meditating and reflecting on it, we gain understanding and clarity of God’s Word in our hearts.
At that point, we are able to take the Word that has been illuminated and organized in our hearts, and with faith and hope, we can burn the incense of prayer at the altar of incense.
Similarly, the evening prayers we offer at the end of the day must also be illuminated by the lamp of God’s Word imprinted on our hearts by the sword of the Spirit.
Exodus 30:8
"When Aaron lights the lamps at twilight, he shall burn incense on it, a perpetual incense before the Lord throughout your generations."
Remember this: Prayers offered by those who do not come before the golden lampstand to hear the Word of God or before the table of showbread to meditate on it are prayers that God cannot accept they are detestable to Him.
Proverbs 28:9
"If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction, even their prayers are detestable."
Exodus 30:9
"Do not offer on this altar any other incense."
A day of grace has begun.
Today, may you come before the golden lampstand to carefully read and hear the Word of God, and before the table of showbread to meditate on the Word by eating, drinking, and reflecting on it.
May the light of God’s Word, organized in your heart, enable you to burn the beautiful incense of prayer as a true intercessor.
I bless and bless you in the name of the Lord!
Amen!
