David, a man after God’s own heart and a victorious believer

wild rose* 2024. 12. 4. 10:28

David, a man after God’s own heart and a victorious believer, received the following covenantal promise from God through the prophet Nathan:

2 Samuel 7:12-16
“When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your offspring after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men. But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.”

The offspring spoken of here is, in the immediate sense, David’s son Solomon. However, in the ultimate sense, this refers to our Lord Jesus Christ, who came as a descendant of David.

The house that Jesus Christ builds for God’s name is the living house of God His Church, purchased by His blood and continually being built.

Moreover, the throne and the kingdom of God, which belong to Jesus Christ, are the saved people of God.

God’s throne is not a golden seat visible to the eyes, where He reigns, but rather the hearts of God’s people those who long for His righteous rule forever.

We are God’s house, the temple built for the glory of His name.
We are God’s throne, where He desires to dwell forever.
We are God’s kingdom, His chosen people.

If we are these, then we will be preserved eternally before Him.

David, upon receiving this amazing covenant from God, rejoiced and prayed in faith:

2 Samuel 7:25-26
“Now, Lord God, keep forever the promise You have made concerning Your servant and his house. Do as You promised, so that Your name will be great forever. Then people will say, ‘The Lord Almighty is God over Israel!’ And the house of Your servant David will be established in Your sight.”

David’s prayer reveals that he held onto God’s covenant by faith and prayed accordingly.

He prayed, “Now, Lord God, keep forever the promise You have made concerning Your servant and his house. Do as You promised...”

From David, we learn what kind of prayer pleases God: a prayer rooted in faith, holding firmly to God’s promises.

A day of grace has begun.

Today, as you read, hear, and meditate on God’s Word, hold onto theeternal covenant given to the descendants of Abraham and David—God’s redeemed people, purchased by the blood of the Lamb.

Like David, may you remind God of His promises and offer prayers of faith.
May you live as a true believer today, rooted in trust and prayer.

In the name of the Lord, I bless and bless you!
Amen!
