We cannot live, move, or exist for a single moment without God’s help. Furthermore, we are weak and limited beings who cannot walk in God’s will for even a second without His guidance.
The psalmist, who experienced God’s help and was delivered from the fierce anger and snares of his enemies, was inspired by the Holy Spirit to proclaim these words:
Psalm 124:8 “Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
The Bible records the holy and blessed names of God, which He has revealed to us. Among these names are those that we can tangibly apply to our daily lives, bringing us great blessings and benefits through faith.
"Jehovah Jireh," meaning “The Lord Will Provide,” is the name God revealed when He provided a ram in place of Isaac, whom Abraham was about to sacrifice (Genesis 22:14). This name shows us that God is our provider, meeting our needs even before we recognize them. He is aware of every lack in our lives and prepares what we need in advance.
"Jehovah Rapha," meaning “The Lord Who Heals,” was the name God revealed when He turned the bitter waters sweet in the wilderness, showing Himself as the healer for the Israelites (Exodus 15:26). God is with us when we need physical, emotional, or spiritual healing, restoring us from our pain.
"Jehovah Nissi," meaning “The Lord Is My Banner,” was the name God revealed in the battle with the Amalekites when Israel triumphed as Moses lifted his hands (Exodus 17:15). God becomes our victory banner in the battles of life. When we believe and trust that He is our protector and victor, we can face any spiritual conflict and overcome.
"Jehovah Shalom," meaning “The Lord of Peace,” was the name by which God revealed Himself to Gideon when he was trembling in fear under the oppression of Midian (Judges 6:24). This name reminds us that, even amid anxiety and worry, God grants us peace. Because He is our peace in any situation, we can experience true rest.
"El Shaddai," meaning “The Almighty God,” was the name God used when making a covenant with Abraham (Genesis 17:1). The covenants God gives us contain treasures beyond human understanding, and He has the power to fulfill every promise. He is the faithful, almighty God who brings to pass all He declares.
Knowing and believing this allows us to rest, like a child who is fully satisfied and secure in a mother’s arms. Under the protection of God’s covenant, we can live a blessed life of hope and peace.
A day of grace has begun. Today, as we read, listen to, and meditate on God’s Word, let us reflect on the precious blessings and benefits found in the beautiful names He has given us. May you walk in His presence and have a blessed day of fellowship with the Lord.
